“The Heartbeat: This is the life I wish for you.”

This issue of the Heartbeat is about the life I wish for you…

Two months ago I was stuck, feeling like I had to keep hustling both a W-2 job and building my multi-six-figure business, so that I could rebuild the financial wealth I lost during my marriage…

I was tired. I was grumpy. I was short with my daughter. I was anxious and frustrated at how hard I was working.

I wasn’t surfing.

Today, I continue to attract new aligned clients and epic opportunities just by meeting with friends at coffee shops.

Things like the VP of Human Resources at a $120M/year company telling me, “You’re a powerhouse. We never want to lose you. The world is your oyster. You just let us know what you want to do.”

I surf most days out of the week.

I walk my daughter to and from school, and she’s loving her transition into public school. We e-bike around town together.

I even make delicious farmer’s market orange gluten-free cakes!

Here are 3 mindset shift strategies that helped me go from feeling TRAPPED and FEARFUL to feeling FREE and STOKED:

  1. Perception is projection. Refocus your lens.

Whatever you believe becomes your reality. Every second, you’re being met with 2M bits of information, but your conscious mind can only take in about 126 bits. Whatever 126 bits you focus on becomes your reality. If you focus on a different 126? You get a different reality.

That’s how powerful you are, how vital of a role your unconscious mind plays in what you “see” every day.

By using my NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) techniques, I’ve been freeing myself of limiting beliefs. All my old operating modes were simply strategies I had employed long ago to keep me “safe,” even though what they were actually doing was keeping me stilted.

  2. Integrate the parts of you that are in conflict.

Before, there was a part of me that wanted to build a successful marketing + branding agency because that’s what I’ve done for over two decades. Then, there was another part of me that wanted to work on my memoir and coach women entrepreneurs of color.

I felt that I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted in either aspect of my business, because every time I was doing one, I wanted to focus on the other. Then, when I transferred my energy to the other thing, I felt guilty about not focusing on the prior.

I did a simple Parts Integration exercise that took about 15-20 minutes and afterward, I felt completely free. No conflict. Easy alignment in every category and now I’m delightfully balancing marketing work with fun clients and submitting my book proposal to publishing houses.

  3. Redefine what “success” means to you.

Growing up as a daughter of immigrants, “success” was actually spelled “money.” Lots and lots of money. Back that up with a childhood filled with scarcity, desperation, and a lack of safety, and money seemed like the answer to everything.

I’m reading The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson and he says this about professional success:

"...when I say 'millionaire' I'm not talking purely about money or financial success. I'm using the term here as a label for success, but it's only a label, a metaphor...

When I say millionaire I mean someone with a
million-dollar smile, with a million friends, with a million dollars' worth — heck, a billion, a trillion dollars' worth — of joy, love, contentment, fulfillment, great relationships, curiosity and fascination, passion and enthusiasm, excitement and accomplishment...

A fortune's worth of life in their life.

I want that life for you."

All those things in bold? I realized those are everything my current life is made of. I have everything most people strive and wish for. For that, I am beyond grateful.

What does a fortune’s worth of life in your life mean to you?
